Approximately 80 percent of Tanzania’s exports are agricultural products: coffee, cotton, sisal, tea, cashew nuts, tobacco, pyrethrum and cloves.
Traditional crops include maize, paddy (rice), sorghum, wheat, beans, cassava, potatoes and sugar cane for home use and domestic market sale. Products that enjoy smaller markets and potential value-added processing, preservation, and canning, are: groundnuts, cowpeas, wine grapes, sunflowers, castor seeds, spices (e.g. cardamoms), sesame seeds, palm oil seeds, copra, cut flowers and fruits and vegetables. Other products are semi-manufactured goods, gold, semi-processed gemstones and clothing.

The Embassy of Tanzania in Sweden has identified the following products which have export potential in the Nordic and Baltic Countries.
Non-Perishable Products
Exotic fruit juices/concentrates, sun-dried fruits, and mangoes in syrup could also enjoy a market in the Nordic countries. Processed food products have an easier time with health regulations.

Apparel And Textiles
Small and medium exporters dealing with textiles could find market opportunities in the Nordic and Baltic Countries. The textile and clothing industry in Tanzania has the potential to become a significant sourcing location for foreign buyers. The Textile Development Unit (TDU) https://tdu.or.tz/ is promoting Tanzania as “the best overall location for making apparel in Africa”.
Tanzania offers a sustainable supply of locally-grown handpicked cotton for Textile and Apparel brands, buyers and manufacturers.
In addition to availability of products that have an export potential we think that forming a relationship with established importers in Nordic and Baltic countries is important. It is possible to invest or partner in the production and processing in order to gain a foothold in the Nordic and Baltic market.
